Coral, preview of video, 12 min, limited edition, Tone Kristin Bjordam, 2009
While previous videos have often had a subdued color scale, emphasising black and white contrasts, Bjordam wanted in the video Coral to have each image in the video to work as an abstract and very colourful painting. Inspired by clouds, explosions, light and corals.
Coral Permanent public video installation on the cruise ship Equinox. The ship was launched in July 2009. Celebrity Art Collection, Royal Caribbean Cruise line. The three different parts in the movie are shown in three different places on a café deck, through several screens that are integrated into the interior of the ship. On this location, for example, the video is shown on five screens side by side, with a delay of 20 seconds on each screen. So that at first glance, it looks like five different videos, with the same colour scale. Like small windows facing an underwater world. The video also communicates visually with the shifting seascapes outside the ship.
Coral as shown at Carnegie Art Award 2010, from the opening at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, Denmark, September 17, 2009. This exhibition will be touring around in the Nordic countries, in addition to London and Nice.
At Carnegie Art Award the video is shown as a big projection on the wall in a dark, large, white room. The three different parts in the movie are shown after each other in one projection. The video works here as a large abstract painting in motion, and the large scale emphasizes the colour experience.
The two following images show how we exhibited Coral at Kunstnernes Hus, May 21 - July 25 2010, as seen from the staircase.
And these two photographs are from another exhibition: Waterworks at Randers Kunstmuseum in Denmark, 20.08 - 28.10 2010. On the wall Coral by Tone Kristin Bjordam, video projection, 2009. In front a waterbed. Hanging from the sealing is an artwork by Rosan Bosch, Intelligence, from 2000. In the background are also works of art by Yoko Ono and Kirsten Justesen.
